Outreach Projects of
the RAI Group
BIMA and Radio
Astronomy
- Radio astronomers, who rely upon computers to process
their observations before they can "see" their results,
are developing innovative tools and techniques to
collaboratively control faraway instruments, form images
of the unseen cosmos and analyze them in close to
realtime. Created by NCSA's Education & Outreach
Group with the assistance of Richard Crutcher and Ray
Plante, this multimedia-rich exhibit provides a "virtual
tour" of the BIMA Array and its pioneering role in the
radio astronomy of the future.
RAI
Demonstration at Supercomputing'95
- The Radio Astronomy Imaging Group presented a
demonstration of how high performance astronomical
processing systems could be used to carry out near
real time imaging of a complex source.
Astronomical
Data Analysis Software and Systems VIII
- NCSA and
the University of Illinois Astronomy
Department hosted the ADASS'98 conference in
Urbana, Illinois November 1-4, 1998. It was
attended by approximately 220 astronomers and
software engineers. The Radio Astronomy Imaging
group, in addition to playing a crucial role in
the organization of the conference carried out
two demonstrations and contributed a oral
presentation.
- The RAI Group Contributions to NCSA Training
- At the NCSA Fall Training Workshop, Doug
Roberts presented a lecture entitled: High
Performance Computing from the Perspective of an
Applications Scientist.
