P5.16 The ADS Bibliographic Reference Resolver

Alberto Accomazzi, Guenther Eichhorn, Michael J. Kurtz, Carolyn S. Grant, Stephen S. Murray (SAO)

An increasingly larger number of publishers and institutions are using the NASA Astrophysics Data System to verify the existance and availability of references published in the astronomical literature. Similarly, individual scientists use the ADS on a regular basis to maintain up-to-date lists of bibliograpies of interest to them.

In this paper we discuss the tools and utilities that the ADS is developing to provide the capability to automatically parse, resolve, verify and format citations appearing in astronomical publications. Several interfaces designed to aid individual users, data centers and journal publishers are presented. We conclude describing the increasingly greater role that the ADS can play in the preparation of scientific papers and their publication process.
