This manual describes the aipsview visualization package. Aipsview has a large number of options which are documented in this manual. However, aipsview is designed to be intuitive and to use sensible defaults. It is not necessary to become completely familiar with all of the options described here to use aipsview successfully.
Throughout the document different fonts will be used to represent different kinds of information. An emphasized font will be used to show filenames (e.g., .cshrc), a bold slant font will be used for menu, submenu and button choices (e.g., Options menu), and a bold faced font will be used to represent window and panel names (e.g., AIPS View), as well as the aipsview program itself. Also, a typewriter font is used when text represents what one would type in a Unix shell, the output of the shell, or environment variables (e.g., type aipsview -fg yellow).
Also note that development has stopped for the aipsview program and its documentation. It is possible that the appearance and functionality of the program may not correspond to the what is presented in the documentation. In this case compare the revision date of the aipsview program, which is displayed in the startup screen of the AIPS View window, with the date of the manual. If one is out of date, there may be inconsistencies.
